Mr. Mohamed Latheef, President of the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) is a passionate volleyball player since childhood. He was an active participant of co-curricular activities during his school days and represented his school in many interschool volleyball tournaments, winning many medals.
As a school student at the age of 16, Latheef was selected for the National Volleyball Team of the Maldives and represented the Maldives National Senior Volleyball Team in the South Asia Federation Games in Colombo in 1991. He was the youngest player in the competition.
After completing school, Latheef played for several top clubs in the Maldives and won many titles.
In his desire to further develop volleyball, Latheef founded the Maldivian Sports and Recreational Club and won many titles for the Club. He also created many opportunities for young volleyball players in the Maldives.
Latheef was elected as the President of the Volleyball Association of Maldives in 2016. He was also a Board of Administration Member of the Asian Volleyball Confederation from 2017 to 2020.
During his tenure as the President of the Volleyball Association of Maldives, Latheef undertook extensive efforts to develop volleyball in the Maldives as well as in the AVC Central Zone. Under his guidance and leadership, a number of local and international competitions were organized, for the purpose of expanding and promoting volleyball activities in the region.
Latheef has more than 25 years of management experience. He is one of the founding Directors of City Investments Pvt Ltd., a local company engaged in the bakery business and the supply of food and beverages, as well as industrial kitchen systems. He has served in leadership positions in the company, including the roles of Chairman and Managing Director, as well as in the Board of Directors of many State-owned enterprises in the Maldives.
Mohamed Latheef was born in 1974. He is married to Shifa Fahumee and has two sons and two daughters. Latheef has completed Master of Business Administration from the University of Bolton.
